Toshiba is the fifth largest personal computer manufacturer in the world, and very well known for their laptops and notebook computers. They are slightly less known for their mobile phones and as such do not appear prominently in the line up of mobile phone handsets available from shops or online mobile phone stores.
Toshiba was originally founded by the merger of two companies in 1939, these being the Tanka Seizosho and Hakunetsusha although they did not originally adopt the name of Toshiba and instead called themselves Tokyo Shibaura Denki. Over time the company gained the nickname of Toshiba and in 1978 they officially changed their name to Toshiba Corporation.
Over the years since 1939 Toshiba has grown on a massive scale and diversified into a multitude of different economies and manufacturing products, these include computers, televisions, video and DVD machines as well as the home appliances such as fridges, freezers and washing machines.
It is only relatively recently in terms of the company history that Toshiba has branched out to produce Toshiba Mobile Phones, and as such have a much smaller product portfolio that the more well known manufacturers like Nokia, Sony Ericsson and Mototola.
